  1. Used cars can only be brought from the country where they are made. The third cannot be brought from any country. That is, made in one country, can not be sent from another country.
  2. Vehicles cannot be older than four years.
  3. To determine the age of imported vehicles, the age of the vehicle must be calculated from the first day of the year following the chassis production.
  4. To import a car in Bangladesh, the cars have to have ‘right-hand drive’ – i.e. the steering of the car should be on the right side.
  5. The certificate issued by Japan Auto Appraisal Institute should include the age, model number, chassis number, etc. of the second hand vehicle. These certificates must be submitted to the Customs Authority.
  6. Since the process is long term storage should be kept in the port for at least one month.

  2. Invoice for registration and determination of the age of the vehicle.
  3. Original copy of the shipping bill.

  5. Title and certificate of registration.
  6. Certificate of origin (certificate of the country in which the car was made).
  7. Authorization letter for car import.
  8. A full report of the condition of the vehicle.

Tax on imports.

  1. Import tax 0-40%.
  2. 2.5% import tax is levied on infrastructure development.
  3. You have to pay 15% for VAT.
  4. One thing to keep in mind is that excise duty is levied on imported vehicles. Only a few privileged or diplomats can import duty free cars in Bangladesh. Besides, other people in Bangladesh even foreigners have to import cars with the same amount of tax.
